Version 2.5 is released.

New funtionality includes export/import Collada .DAE which is gaining wide support as a format for interchanging 3D data between applications. Collada wil give better interchange with Blender and 3DS Max (V7 and above) than .3DS.

At long last, there is the ability to write GPL .3DO, and .ASE export for ASE23DO.EXE (both intended for trackside objects).

There'a an important fix for the bug which some users had when attempting to export objects.

More details of additional improvements and a patch to update earlier versions 2 releases to 2.5 can be found here:-

Cheers!

I have 2.4a, when I run the patch I get a LZ writing error 1, and my 3dsimed.exe is left at 0 bytes length.
Anybody help this 'tard out?

My guess is that you have an anti-virus program running.

Copy 3DSimED.000 back to 3DSimED.EXE and switch off the anti-virus before attempting to patch again.

Cheers!

I did have it turned off.
BUT, I was able to boot in Safe mode, perform the update to 2.5, then reboot normally. That might be a workaround for someone else experiencing the same problem.
Thanks for a great program, Dave!!

Hi, thanks for the update, Collada support looks nice feature.

Since this update, at least, there is a new issue: 3DSimEd takes about 100% CPU time after a while (25% in fact on my Quad Core, 50% on a Core Duo I guess) . Is there any active loop for input ? It the same when we do so in any program.

Regards.

Thanks so much Dave.
If a feller has a properly sliced 3d car model for GPL exported in both 3ds and ase how would you suggest your tool be used ?

I have tried and tried to reproduce this but with no luck at all.

The only possibility that comes to mind is having a large number of materials with animation as that's about all the SimED ever does while 'idle'.

Cheers!

No idea, I think you need to be asking in one of the other Pits forums.

All I do know is that it is very complicated if you are attempting to make a GPL car but hopefully 3DSimED can now help in that regard.

Cheers!

Hi,

good idea but sadely it's not the case here.
I just try again few minutes ago with one object which have only one static material (no anim) and 3DSimEd begin to use CPU time for unknow reason and even I close the object, CPU is still in used.

(I have import as object a small object).

If it cans help, I can try with with a debug release or anything like this, feel free to pm me.

Cheers.

For the 100% CPU usage, I have a clue, in some cases, I think it's using this button, the "faces" button in edit menu is "blinking" (this is the only way I can describe what's happening, I see something like a "click loop" on the button) when 3DSimEd eat CPU cycles. After this occured, the only way seems to kill 3DSimEd.

I just update my 2.3 to 2.5 today.

I know this is late but is it possible to make this version Windows 2000 compatible? Everytime I run it there is error message:
DLL function import error: WS2_32.dll/freeaddrinfo

From google:
Microsoft Link:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms738520(VS.85).aspx

In brief:
The getaddrinfo function was added to the Ws2_32.dll on Windows XP and
later. To execute an application that uses this function on earlier
versions of Windows, then you need to include the Ws2tcpip.h and
Wspiapi.h files.

getaddrinfo support on versions of Windows earlier than Windows XP is
limited to handling IPv4 name resolution.

The GetAddrInfoW function cannot be used on versions of Windows earlier
than Windows XP with SP2.

I hope this problem can be solved.

I am looking at this problem but it is not my code but the libraries for Collada which use this call. However, I will try to implement a workaround.
