Hi guys,
I am keen to convert a track from GPL to rF2.I have been reading the tutorial by Steve Dienes. This is quite old now and I was wondering if you still need TrkMaker, or whether more functionality has been added to 3dsimed to do the same thing.
thanks.

Honestly, its been so long since I have done anything with a Papy format track, that I don't know. 3dSimEd has gained two major version numbers since then.
Hopefully, Dave or someone else will have an answer for you.

If you are successful in converting GPL tracks to rF, please let me know. I'd like to help, if possible, to make low res versions because I have many tracks that I'm getting 9 - 16 fps with and I figure I'm probably not the only person getting horrible performance in rF.

Thank you.

To go from GPL to rF2 is difficult because a mesh has to be generated from the GPL .trk file which describes a track in terms of straights, corners elevations etc rather than defining the mesh itself. One tool that could create these meshes was TrkMaker.

I've uploaded TrkMaker which can be found at the http://www.sim-garage.co.uk downloads page. If you look under Editing guides you will find a GPL->rFactor conversion guide.

TrkMaker is looking a little old in the tooth and it's unlikely it will be updated as it was mainly for use with the GPL, N4, NR2002, NR2003 which are a little in the past now, but TrkMaker & the guide should be able to get you kick-started.

Cheers!

Dave N.
