I have 2 mirrors in a cabriolet style car. The centre 'rearview' mirror has the 'mirror.bmp' mapped onto the object correctly, Render as Target etc.etc and works as normal, hooray! I have done the same process for the side door mirrors, but these don't display correctly?! They are rendering something, but I think its the shape of the object (almost like an oval, with a point on the outside end) that causes the problem!?@#

The first problem that I can identify (I think) is that what is being rendered is rotated by 90ยบ, and secondly (I'm really guessing here) is its excessively squished, I assume due to the incorrect mapping of the MIRROR.BMP onto the object.

I've read all the mirror threads on this forum and cant find a solution.......Any suggestions please???

can you post a gmt with just the mirror faces. Preferably all of them. I would be happy to fix it, and then explain how I did it.

Generally what I do is attach all the mirror faces to 1 poly, then unwrap them. The pic below shows how I lay out the faces on the UVW maping. These are just some poly's I splined out real quick for this.... so you can see how I have them. As long as they are unwrapped similar to this, your good to go. However, the Cockpit ini file is where you tweak the perceptive. You can get some pretty weird stuff going on, if you get these settings outta whack.

I see what you're doing in 3dsMax....but I'm relatively new at the whole 3d thing, so to get to this point could take a lot of F & C's etc..............

thanks so much for help!!!!

Here it goes...

(I will have a pic after each explanation, and then at the bottom of this all I will have the link posted to the fixed mirrors.)

As you can see, this was not just a fat mirror face, but also has some of the mirrors frame attached, and is also tagged with the mirror material... This will cause a problem cause now it is trying to render the mirror on the entire thing.

Image

Next I detach both mirrors faces, so I now have two separate polys, 1 with left and right mirror faces, and one with left and right mirror frames.

Image
Image

I then set the mirror frame with a new material (carbon Fiber) and called the material mirror_surround.

Image
Image

Now I just do a basic flatten unwrap of the frame.

Image

As you can see the mirrors were NOT unwrapped, they were basically 2 flat lines.

Image

Now I do a basic "Front to Back" unwrap, Set the bitmap size to 1024x256, set the template bitmap to the mirror.bmp, use the "Free Form" Gizmo and scale them something like I have or to your liking.

Image

Now you should see something like this....

Image

Write your GMT's......

Image

And now in SimEd (I only have the old version) Looks like so....

And that is all there is too it....
