PRIVACY

The Pits is completely aware of our user's wishes for privacy, and our policy is to insure that you feel secure while visiting our site. We no more want our users to have their information abused than we do ourselves. We will never collect information, nor knowingly allow our advertisers to collect information that will be sold or given to mass marketers and advertising agencies.

We do occasionally collect information from you at this site, and this comes in 3 different formats, an online feedback form or survey, website tracking software, and via 'cookies'. Here's how the information will be used from all of these tools.

If we recieve feedback from you with your email address, we insure that your email address does not get released from our site. We keep all information recieved from our users confidential, in that we do not discuss or give this information to persons outside of The Pits without the permission of the person who sent it.

Sometimes we may put up surveys, to see what kinds of things our users like to see or do, how we are doing, or other such questions. Again, this information is used internally, and while the focus of the questions may be given to outsiders, your personal information (email address, name, ect) will not be. If in the case another company or website asks us to post a survey, we will insure that they provide a privacy statement to you to allow you to see what information they are gathering, and what they will use it for. The Pits works with a third party that serves ads to this site. To find out more about how Flycast manages the privacy of information in conjunction with serving ads on this site, please go to http://www.flycast.com/about_us/about-privacy.html. We will not knowingly allow companies that would use your information for intrusive mass-marketing techniques (such as email spam or mailing lists) to post anything on The Pits.

We use website tracking software to see what kind of 'trends' and hits are being made to our website from other places. In this case, our tracking software may identify what type of operating system and browser you are using, where you are coming from, and who your internet service provider is. There is no 'private' information (such as phone numbers, email addresses, or street addresses) that is collected by this software.

Some of our website advertisers use "cookies" to gather information about users that are viewing their adds. Cookies are nothing more than a text file submitted to your browser that acts as a 'place-marker', or that a user has seen the advertisement. It can be used to see what your interests are (such as you saw their ad while visiting a racing-sim site like The Pits) to help them send ads that may be more to your interest. Here's how it works. An advertiser sends your browser a cookie saying that you are seeing an ad from them while visiting The Pits. It stands to reason that because you are visiting our site, that you probably like games, automobiles, and racing. Now their ad server can send you an ad that pertains to one of those topics. See? Very simple. If you do not want your browser to accept cookies, you can turn it off in the preferences area. However, that doesn't mean that you still won't see the advertisements, it just means that they will send you 'general' ads which may or may not be of interest to you.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to The Pits, and we wish you continued online enjoyment of the internet, and that is why we let you know that you can feel your privacy is safe while visiting our site. If you have any questions about privacy or security in general, please feel free to email us, or visit Castle Graphics and take a look at the Resources section.
